Table of Organization and Equipment (TO&E)

The Table of Organization and Equipment (TO&E) is a comprehensive list of personnel by rank, as well as types and quantity of the equipment issued to each unit. The TO&E was vital administrative paperwork because it helped units manage and fill out the rosters of their units with replacements for casualties in combat, as well as replacing pieces of equipment lost in combat on the frontlines. By reading the TO&E, one can better understand the logistical issues that the U.S. Army, and specifically the men of the 103rd Infantry Division had to overcome to maintain their fighting strength as they battled through Europe.
